5 Things to Know in Murrieta Today: Aug. 1

1.) There is a hazardous weather outlook for the Inland Valley forewarning of flash flooding and a chance of thunderstorms and lightning, according to the National Weather Service. Otherwise, today will be sunny with a high near 94. Tonight, expect mostly clear skies with a low around 63.
REMINDER: Beat the heat by staying indoors and avoiding exercise or outdoor activities in the middle of the day. Wear loose fitting clothing, shield yourself from the sun and wear sunscreen. If you do want to get out today, stay cool stopping by the community pool at California Oaks Sports Park. Open swim is from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Adults get in for $2 and children for $1.

2.) Beginning today and everyday through the month of August, get a free breakfast at Chick-fil-A in Murrieta. Between 6:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., buy a breakfast item or meal and just say “Double my order” to receive another of the same item or meal free. Take a friend out for breakfast or ensure your kids get a filling meal before school.

3.) Join the City of Murrieta for a ribbon cutting celebration for the Clinton Keith/I-215 Interchange/Whitewood Road project completion and grand opening. This marks the first transportation project completed in Riverside County through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The celebration will take place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at The Orchard-Stone Creek parking lot, with the ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. This is a free event and open to all. 4.) The Riverside County Transportation Commission, the California Department of Transportation and the City of Murrieta are working to widen Interstate 215 between Murrieta Hot Springs and Scott roads. Construction activity will include grinding and paving of the shoulder lanes, installation of concrete barriers along the center median and drainage work. Daytime bridgework will continue at the Keller Road under crossing requiring intermittent lane closures. A flagging operation will be in place to direct motorists through the area. For tonight, closures are as follows:

INTERSTATE 215: Lane closures are scheduled for Interstate 215 between Murrieta Hot Springs and Scott roads. The south direction will experience intermittent freeway lane closures and the number one and two lane will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. The northbound lanes are subject to intermittent closures as well between the hours of 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. The number one and two lane will also be closed due to a striping operation.

INTERSTATE 15: Both the northbound and southbound ramps at California Oaks Road will also experience full ramp closure between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. Lane closures are due to bridge construction. For a full list of closures, click here.

BONUS TIP: School for students in the Murrieta Valley Unified School District begins Aug. 11. Regristration is taking place at schools this week. If you are not sure when your registration time falls, visit our schools directory to find your school’s phone number and website. If your child is entering seventh through 12th grade, the district is requiring proof of a Tdap vaccination.
