Android Dev Tools Finally Make Their Way To Google TV

Google TV, the operating system built into television sets that was supposed to revolutionize the way we interact with our boob tubes, is finally on its way to delivering on that promise.
Originally released late last year, Google TV has fallen flat largely because one of the most heralded features – the availability of an Android Market-like app storefront – has practically never seen an update. The standard apps like Netflix are here, but that does nothing to differentiate it from the myriad other Internet-connected TVs.

Now, however, it looks like existing Android apps will soon be able to be ported to Google TV, and Android developers will finally get the tools they need to create unique content.

“With the upcoming OS update to Honeycomb, Google TV devices will be Android compatible. That means developers can build great new Android apps for TV, optimize existing mobile or tablet apps for TV, and distribute those apps through Android Market,” Google confirmed in a blog post.
