Georgetown plays next game in China without incident

Georgetown’s basketball team was able to play a game Sunday in China without international incident.

Jason Clark had 17 points to lead the Hoyas to a 91-69 defeat of the Liaoning Dinosaurs at the Nike Festival of Sport in Shanghai.

There were nearly 1,000 fans at Sunday’s game, including NBA players Amare Stoudamire, Tyson Chandler and Kyrie Irving.

“That was exactly what we anticipated,” Hoyas coach John Thompson III said. “If you looked at the events that happened the other day, that’s not the norm.

The reception that our team got today and the atmosphere here today was much more consistent with a) what we anticipated and b) what we experienced in every game and event since we’ve been here. So that was not surprising.

“What was, I wouldn’t say surprising, but exciting and good, was the number of people there, the whole atmosphere, the venue in and of itself and being part of Nike’s Festival of Sport was different special.”

One twist to Sunday’s game was that it was played outdoors.
