Man spends £1k on travel to payback pint

A German man spent £1,000 flying to the UK to payback a pint of beer he owed a British tourist following a bet.

Sebastian Steinzen lost the wager during a game of golf while on holiday in Majorca in 2005, but after never paying it he felt it was time to settle the debt and travelled 880 miles to Britain to track down the man he knew only as Patrick – but he never found him.

He travelled to Portishead, north Somerset, where Patrick told him he was from and visited numerous golf clubs and pubs.

The 34-year-old teacher said: “I owe him a pint. I want to pay my bet. That is the only reason I am here.

“The bet has been on my mind for five years so I decided to do something about it.

“I’m a man who likes to pay his debts.

“I have travelled 800 miles to try to find Patrick. It is worth every penny if I find him.”
